This dates from 1899 telling the story of an Atlantian general, Deucalion returning from the colony of Yucatan to become the consort of Queen Phorenice. He finds a different country to the one he left 20 years before with rebellion, widespread poverty and the old religion neglected. Deucalion comes to understand that, although brilliant and admired, his Queen is actually an evil, power-crazed tyrant who is destined to destroy all he holds dear.
