
During her lifetime (1741-1807), Kauffman was recognized as an important painter of historical and mythological subjects as well as a portraitist of the famous. Contributors examine work produced during her 15 years in England and also that produced in Italy for British clients, explore her life and career, and discuss the reasons for her marginali.
